A front-line of Dwarf Warriors will happily hold the line during the early game, so focus fire the enemy ranged units down before focusing on the enemy infantry. There will be a -2 loyalty debuff for your factions grey seers so try to avoid recruiting any of those lords in the early game if you seem to be losing battles and are new to the Skaven. Designed as the apex new player race, Lothern and the High Elves are a must-play campaign for any beginner. A great start position, as well as epic Legendary Lords, does make it possible to succeed on easier difficulties.
Swordsmen and Spearmen (with Shields) fill this role nicely in the early and mid-game. Sit back, wait for your enemy to approach, and watch as their ranks are murdered by ranged fire. Heroes like Skin Chiefs can obtain powerful dinosaur mounts, always be sure to include multiple heroes in your armies.
